The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, implementing, evaluating, recruiting staff, retaining staff, directing, budgeting and controlling the provision of services for the Pharmacy Department.

Responsibilities include:

Participates in Medication Management processes through collaborative teamwork, interaction, and sharing with administration, physicians, nurses, department managers and other team members.

Responsible for contributing to safe medication management where Pharmacy contributes to the process, including selection, procurement, storage, ordering, transcribing, preparing, dispensing and monitoring medications.

Directs the hiring process and makes recommendations to management and staff for making the department successful.

Sets goals and makes recommendations in a collaborative team approach to accomplish the organization's goals.

Maintains a focus on improving patient's outcomes while understanding operations related to supplies, materials, staff, equipment and other support tools needed for the success of the organization.

Qualifications include:

Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy required. 

Master's Degree/Doctorate Degree preferred.

Licensed by the Texas Board of Pharmacy.

Minimum 5-7 years of management experience in an acute care setting.

Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and critical thinking skills.

Ability to work in a detail-oriented environment while handling multiple priorities required.

Strong computer skills required. 

Experience with Meditech a plus.

The position reports through Operations.  The Pharmacy Department has approximately 42 FTEs consisting of a Manager, Clinical Coordinator, Evening Supervisor, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Techs. 

The Clinical Manager is responsible for coordinating clinical pharmacy services and ensuring that the pharmacy provides optimal clinical services on a daily basis. 

The Clinical Manager facilitates the development, implementation, and maintenance of system.

The minimum requirements for this position are as follows:

Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy (BS Pharm)

Minimum of three years (3) required in a clinical position-eight to  ten years preferred.  Prior experience as a clinical pharmacist required.

Thorough knowledge of pharmacy operations required. 

Software skills using MS office, proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel, some knowledge of MS Access required.

Automation experience with knowledge of reporting features (i.e., optimization, load/unload, nursing narcotic)required.

Must have a current license as Pharmacist in the State of Nevada.

Staff Pharmacist Position

Responsibilities:

- Takes all steps required to fill prescriptions in compliance with all laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures regarding the sale of pharmaceuticals including: retrieves the product(s); counts, pours, or measures out the required quantity according to established company methods and procedures; affixes the label permanently to the container; and performs a final audit of the prescription.

- Assists with and responds in a courteous and professional manner to questions from customers and physicians in regards to knowledge of prescription and health related products and issues.

- Offers advice and professional consultation; acts as a role model to the pharmacy team; efficiently handles customer complaints; and directs pharmacy operations to keep wait times to a minimum.

- Responds to telephone requests from customers, physicians, and vendors that require the expertise of the pharmacist.

Education/Experience:

- A college degree in Pharmacy (BS or Pharm D).

- Must pass the NABLEX or state Board (for state license) as well as the State Law Board.

- Ability to readily adapt to changes in schedule specifications and work priorities as the business and customer needs demand.

Clinical Staff Pharmacist

Responsibilities:

Process orders for parenteral and enteral medications, and other pharmaceuticals as needed for optimal patient care according to standards and practices for patients in all age groups including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.  Promote safe, cost-effective, rational drug use and provides expert pharmaceutical information to other health colleagues.  Supports the mission and core values of the company through responsible and effective work performance.

1. Directs the control of medication administration and drug distribution for inpatient and outpatient services for patients in all age groups including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. 

2. Collects and interprets relevant patient information to determine if patient has a drug-related problem.  Makes appropriate recommendations to modify therapy as required to meet the needs of the patient. 

3. Promotes cost-effective and individualized drug therapy and implements decision for drug use and monitors plan to achieve desired therapeutic goal.  Provides drug information (written or oral) which relates to the audience.

4. Follows written protocols for the majority of situations.  Determines when to deviate to provide appropriate therapy.  Minimizes or prevents the incidences and severity of adverse drug effects.

5. Performs in patient and family education and counseling regarding pharmaceutical therapy.    Conducts service audits to assure quality patient care and benefit of pharmaceutical services provided.  Maintains confidentiality of records, patient, employee or medical center information at all times. Ensures all information and conversations regarding patients are secured from general public access.

Education/ Experience:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Pharmacy.  Pharm D preferred.

Five (5) years progressively responsible experience performing pharmacy functions in an acute care setting.

Ability to serve as a lead worker to subordinate personnel.

ACLS certification must be obtained within one year of hire.

Must have a Texas License.
